The Somali Peace and Development Organization (SOMPAD), which was established in 2020, is a woman-led, legally recognized, and dynamic non-governmental organization. Somalia’s protracted war has been experienced for the past 3 decades and Communities lost members and properties in the process.
The goal of SOMPAD is to uphold human rights, particularly those related to development, peace, and humanitarian aid among Somali communities, as well as healthy cultural customs, lobbying with a range of partners and stakeholders, including the government and security agencies such as the police, army, and other civil society organizations.
Currently, SOMPAD is concentrated on women’s rights, child protection, gender equality, sustainable livelihoods, peace and development, and humanitarian assistance. The Organization also undertakes Initiatives related to agriculture and climate change, psycho-social recovery, dialogue and reconciliation, empowerment and rehabilitation of impacted communities and individuals, education, health, content water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) resilience, food security, economic development and sustainable livelihoods, social services & protection, humanitarian mine action projects, assistance for women and girls, and peacebuilding and governance.
Following the establishment of peace in the impacted communities as a result of our advocacy work with stakeholders, the organization undertook a significant shift from peace focused initiatives to human rights-based approach with financial and capacity building from well-wishers and donors via Regional Rights Program.
